Naperville Central Wrestling Celebrates Season at Awards Banquet

Naperville Central wrestling coaches recognized each athlete at the NCHS wrestling awards banquet held in the auxiliary gym.  There was a lot to celebrate.  The final varsity record was 24-4, and 6-2 in the DVC.  Central took 3^rd in the conference in duals and 7^th in the DVC tournament.  Jake Keating won the conference tournament.  The Redhawks took 2^nd place at the Hoffman Estates Tournament, 1^st at the Bradley-B dual tournament, 1^st at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational and 5^th in the IHSA Regionals.  Four individuals qualified for the Sectionals and Jake Keating and Cam Hayes were state qualifiers.

Iron Man Award winners were Kyle Guttosch, Alex Hunter, Luc Jandt, Ben Marrero, Shuji Mizoguchi (a three time winner), Christian Nussbaum, Luke Russell, Jacob Smitas, and Alex VanEeuwen.

Academic All-Conference winners were Steven Bumpus, Cam Hayes, Alex Hayes, Alex Hunter, Shuji Mizoguchi, John Szczap, Jake Keating, Christian Nussbaum, Alex Raulicks, Nick Keating, and Derek McDaniel.

Tom Hamill won a special letter for his work as videographer for the past two years.  He also was given a team t-shirt as well. 

Special Award winners were:

Most Valuable: Cameron Hayes

Hardest Worker: Jake Keating and Luc Jandt

Most Inspirational: Christian Nussbaum

Most Improved Award: Steven Bumpus

Freshman Wrestler of the year: Kyle Guttosch

JV wrestler of the year: Brad Catalano

Red and White winner: Shuji Mizoguchi

Special thanks were given to the moms for parent representative, social organizer, hospitality room (merchandise) training tables, help with breakfast, and help with running clocks and taking photos: Maureen Guttosch, Stacey Wilke, Anne Keating, Mellisa Jandt, Joyce Hayes, Maureen Chobak, and Yumiko Mizoguchi.

The NCHS wrestling managers, especially Keley and Maggie, did a great job all year.  They were acknowledged for all their hard work this season.

Pat Murphy was thanks for all of his yearlong efforts in helping the wrestling team.

Thanks to our volunteer coaching staff including Jim Graeber, Justin Tardy, Nick Mondek, and Jeff Burdorff.

The coaching staff recognized the help of the school administration; our athletic director Andrew Lutzenkirchen, Debbie Adams and Ranelle Coffey, Bill Salentine.

Naperville Wresting Club (Phoenix Division) will be hosting two tournaments this spring.  The IWCOA Freshman-Sophomore Tournament will be held Sunday, March 6^th in the aux gym.  The ILUSAW Freestyle and Greco-Roman Developmental Tournament will be held on April 2^nd in the aux and main gym.
