Naperville Wrestlers compete at Freestyle State

Derek McDaniel: Cadet 160 4th
Qayin Dabney: Schoolboy 128 3rd
Collin Carrigan: Novice 70 4th
Tommy Porter: Schoolboy 77 6th


Wrestlers from Naperville Central and Naperville Wrestling Club competed at the IWF / USA Wrestling Illinois State Freestyle Wrestling Tournament this weekend with four individuals placing.

In all, 10 NCHS wrestlers competed and 5 NWC wrestlers competed (with two of those five entering NCHS next year).

Placing 4th at Cadet 160 pounds was Derek McDaniel.  Derek won four matches in a row before losing his first match.  In pool round robin competition Derek split his matches, taking 2nd place.  Derek lost in the semifinals and was walked-over for 4th place.

Entering freshman Qayin Dabney impressed his future coaches by going 3-1 in the tournament and finishing in 3rd place.  Qayin wrestled in the schoolboy division, 128 pounds.  Leo Keating, NWC, finish the tournament 2-2.  Leo will be entering NCHS next year as well.

The following NCHS wrestlers finished the tournament 2-2: Jake Keating (Junior 138), Jackson Punzel (Cadet 170), Kyle Guttosch (Cadet 106).

Wrestling for the Naperville Wrestling Club were Collin Carrigan, Tommy Porter and Garrett Dahn.  Carrigan finished 2-2 and took 4th place.  Porter also finished 2-2 and took 6th place.

Other wrestlers from NCHS in the tournament were Nick Keating, Luke Russell, Zeke Hill, Frank Sapanaro, Cam Palmer, and Mujtaba Ahmed.  Keating, Russell and Hill all won a match.
