Naperville Central Rings In New Year With Two Victories

Naperville Central improved to 15-6 on the season after earning two dual victories at home against Schaumburg and Plainfield South.  Wrestlers with two victories include Jacob Smetters, John Carens, Will Erbeck, Henry Rydwelski, Jacob Cochran, Vince Bern, Niko Besteiro, and Austin Aguinaldo.  Chris Bern, Justin Skryd, Ty Martin and Mitchell Kaszuba finished 1-0.

Against Schaumburg, Central won ten of the fourteen matches, including the first seven.  Carens (165), Rydwelski (175), Smetters (190), Besteiro (215) and Erbeck (285) all posted falls for the first five matches.  Aguinaldo (106) earned a victory in overtime and Cochran (113) landed the sixth fall of the day.  Flynn Collins was defeated at 120, but Mitchell Kaszuba (126) avenged the loss, battling to a 7-4 decision.  Vince Bern fought to a 11-4 win at 132.  Schaumburg won the next three weight classes, but Chris Bern (157) capped off the dual victory with a first period fall.

Central won twelve of thirteen matches against Plainfield South, and another match by forfeit.  Locking down falls for the Redhawks were Rydwelski, Smetters, Erbeck, Cochran, Collins, Vince Bern, CJ Bierman, Taylor, Justin Skryd (150), and Carens.  Aguinaldo won by forfeit.  Justin Skryd earned his second varsity win, this time in front of the home crowd.  Niko Besteiro won the most exciting match of the day, a 4-3 nail-bitter against Matt Janiak that could have gone either way.  Ty Martin (126) added a technical fall, winning 17-1.

NCHS JV teams won both of their duals, a 73-6 win against Schaumburg and an 84-0 win against Plainfield South.
