Naperville Central Starts 2010-11 Campaign at 3-0

On Saturday, November 27, 2010 the Redhawks swept the quad against Chicago Lane Tech, Batavia, and Downers Grove South to begin the year at 3-0.  The meet took place at home as Central auditioned their brand new competition gym.

NCHS started the dual by defeating Chicago Lane Tech by a score of 34-27.  The dual was decided in the last bout when sophomore Luke Roth won 9-1 at 189 pounds.  In round two the Hawks beat Batavia by a score of 52-22.  In probably the nights most exciting match, senior Kyle Miller overcame an 3-11 deficit with two reversals and 5 straight takedowns to win in overtime at 140 pounds.  Kyle finished the day 3-0 and won the team's "I'm Somebody" award for his efforts.  In the last dual of the night, the Redhawks defeated Downers Grove South 46-28.  The dual was decided at 215 pounds when Will Damron overcame a 0-5 deficit with a second period pin.  Will started his varsity efforts with three wins.

Also going 3-0 on the day were Ryan Porter at 103, Josh Tardy at 135, John Graeber at 145, and James Mitchell at 285.  Junior Steven Splan won 2 matches on the day as well as Kirk Cherep and Luke Roth.

The JV1 team finished the day 1-1 by defeating to Rockton Honanegah before losing to Stagg.  At the freshman level, the Hawks finished 4th in the 8-team Hinsdale Central tournament.  Dominic Delgrosso, Matt Alber, and Louie Giovannetti all won the tournament.

Next up the Redhawks will begin DVC competition at West Aurora on Friday, December 3rd.  On Saturday varsity, JV1, and JV2 teams head to the Mega-duals and the freshman compete at Lyons all on Saturday.
