Redhawks defeat West Chicago

The Naperville Central Redhawk wrestling team, 10-10, (3-4 in DVC) ended the dual meet season in style by defeating the West Chicago Wildcats at home 46-27 on Senior Night.  With the starting weight class at 152, senior Trace Murray started the meet with a hard fought 4-3 decision.  Senior Dan Henkel replaced Tom Mitrenga at 160 and earned a first period fall.  Dan got the team's I'm Somebody Award for his efforts.  Senior Kyle Klass recorded five takedowns in his 14-7 win at 170 pounds.  Luke Roth, Ryan Berg and Vince Piazza all won by forfeit.

Derek Wilke was pinned at 106 but Mitch Lee answered with a technical fall at 113 pounds.  Senior Stephen Splan battled by lost at 120 by a 5-12 score.  Ben Williamson brought the home crowd to their feet with an impressive 15-0 technical fall recorded in the first period.  Ben scored 6 sets of near-fall points in that period.  Senior Kirk Cherep won by forfeit.  Senior Andrew Meder lost by fall at 138 and Hunter Stephens lost by fall at 145.

The JV1 team won 54-15.  West Chicago did not field a JV2 team.  The freshman also won 54-15.

That concludes competitions for our JV and freshman teams.  Next up for the Redhawks is the DVC Conference Tournament at Glenbard East this Saturday, January 28.  Action starts at 11:30 and finals are scheduled for 5:30.  Hope to see you there.
