Naperville Central defeats Lake Park on Senior Night

NCHS 50 – Lake Park 15

Naperville Central (17-5, 3-1 in DVC) defeated Lake Park at home on Senior Night by a score of 50-15.  Naperville Central seniors how have been associated with the wrestling program were honored with their parents prior to the varsity dual.

Mustafa Ahmed, Cameron Baumgartner, Antonio Bonano, Matt Chobak, Riley Guttosch, Richard Hu, Rick Marciniak, Nick Nunziato, Hayden Saldivar, Derek Wilke, and Ben Williamson were recognized as well as Cathy Harrington and Re’Jahnique Matthews.

Lake Park forfeited six weight classes leaving eight contested matches at the varsity level.  NCHS and Lake Park split those matches four and four.  Senior Derek Wilke bumped up a weight class at 126 pounds and won by decision 4-0.  Senior Nick Nunziato lost a decision at 132 pounds, but outscored his opponent 5-3 in the third frame.  Cam Hayes lost to ranked Schoen by a score of 3-0.  Senior Rick Marciniak scored three takedowns in route to a 14-1 major decision at 152 pounds.  Kyle Hildebrand looked tough at 182 pounds, winning 9-0.  Senior Alex Hunter lost by fall to top-ranked Vittal at 195 pounds.  Senior Hayden Saldivar attempted a match winning headlock with time winding to but missed and lost 1-5.

At 106 pounds, Senior Cam Baumgartner battled to a tight 2-1 victory.  In the match, both wrestlers were penalized for fleeing the mat but Baumgartner scored an escape for the difference.  The win gave the Redhawks a 50-15 team victory and earned Baumgartner the team’s “I’m Somebody” Award.

Lake Park forfeited their JV1 dual to Central.  Naperville Central won the JV2 dual by a score of 47-30.  Lake Park won the freshman dual 33-54.

Next up the Redhawks will travel to the Mahomet-Seymour Tournament.  The JV2 team will wrestle at Rolling Meadows while the freshman will wrestle at Neuqua Valley.
