Jake Keating was crowned champion at the 2016 DVC
championships held at Glenbard North High School. Jake competed at 120 pounds. Seeded first, Jake won his preliminary match
by fall over Fisher of Naperville North, and then got by Ariza of Metea Valley
in the semifinals by a score of 6-3. In
the championship match, Keating put on a show, scoring early and often and
locking down a fall for the gold.
Cam Hayes finished in third place in the event. He just missed defeating Czernek of Glenbard
North in the semifinals, losing by a score of 2-3. Hayes bounced back with a 21-6 technical fall
verses Matar of Naperville North for the bronze.
Luc Jandt finished with a record of 2-2 and took 4th
place. Jandt won both of his matches by
fall. In one of those matches, he pinned
Chesney of Wheaton North, an opponent he lost last week. Also taking 4th was 285 pounder
Alex Hunter. Hunter won 5-1 against
Yanan of Wheaton North in the preliminary round, avenging a loss to him last
week.
Two Redhawks finished in 5th place. Shuji Mizoguchi scored a fall in his final
match to take 5th at 113 pounds.
Steven Bumpus also won by pin in his last match for 5th at
138 pounds.
Taking 6th place for NCHS were Kyle Guttosch at
106, Nick Keating at 126, Derek McDaniel at 145, and Ben Cianchetti at 182
pounds. Alex Raulicks won his last bout
in the tournament to take 7th place.
Next up the Redhawks will compete at Naperville North in the
IHSA Regional Tournament. The event will
be Saturday, February 6th with action starting around 9:00am. Top three finishers in the Regional will
advance to the Sectionals to be held at Batavia High School the following
weekend.
