NCHS 70 – MV 6
The Redhawks traveled to face DuPage Valley Conference foe
Metea Valley and came away with their fourth dual win by score of 70-6. Of the eleven contested matches, Central won
ten, seven of those by fall.
The contest
started at 106 pounds. Ethan Olson and
August Kukis picked up forfeits. Tommy
Porter and Tyler Driessens both won by fall at 120 and 126 respectively. Alex Knusel gutted out a decision at 132
pounds. He was winning by 1 in the final
seconds and scored a takedown to secure the 12-9 win.
Elrin Esporlas won by fall.
He was followed by Anthony Pendolino at 145 pounds. Pendolino put on a takedown clinic to win by
major decision 14-3. Unfortunately, Pendolino
suffered an injury in the match. Ryan
Silva accepted a forfeit at 152 pounds.
Sean King looked impressive at 160 with a win by pin.
In perhaps the most exciting match of the night, Manny
Rivera looked to hold on for a win at 182 pounds. Rivera was taken down in the waning seconds
to fall behind 2-3, but his opponent was called for illegal locked-hands just
before the final buzzer. The one point
penalty tied the score at 3-3 and set the match into overtime. Rivera attacked in the extra period causing
his opponent to back out of the mat, stalling.
That penalty point ended up being the difference in the match: 4-3.
Angelo Eklou and Carson Enfield closed the dual out with two
consecutive pins at 220 and 285. Austin
Longmire was defeated at 195 pounds.
