NCHS 49 – Neuqua Valley 21

Naperville Central won eight of twelve contested matches and picked up another couple of forfeits to cruise a DuPage Valley Conference victory at Neuqua Valley High School.

The contest started at the 145 pound weight class were Boumans of NV defeated Chris Ramirez by technical fall.  Neuqua Valley then forfeited their matches at 152 and 160 pounds giving Anthony Pendolino and Ayden Lutes a free victory and a 12-5 team score lead.  Junior 170 pounder Haaris Khan fell behind early in his match, but came storming back to tie the score late in the match.  Then, with just a few seconds left, Khan was able to secure a huge pin.  The win extended the team score lead to 18-5.  In the next match, upstart Ethan Pytlak, 182 was defeated by fall.

NCHS rattled off three consecutive win by pin-fall in the upper weight classes.  Junior David Pirozhnik extended his undefeated season to 7—0 after fighting for a fall in the 195 pound weight class.  Senior Austin Longmire followed with a pin of his own midway through his match at 220 pounds.  Finally Nick Antonietti was able to put his opponent’s shoulders to the mat wrestling in the heavyweight.  The three wins enlarged the team score margin 36-11.

Freshman Ty Martin was defeated by pin at 106.  His loss was avenged by 113 pounder Ethan Sentman who won by major decision 14-5.  Ethan number two, Olson that is, looked tough in defeating Gio Spatafora by decision 9-2 at 120 pounds.  Neuqua Valley scored a victory at 126 as August Kukis fell by major decision.  In the final two bouts, freshman Mitchell Kaszuba earned a varsity win at 132 with a 9-7 decision and senior Alex Knusel closed out the team with, hanging on to win 6-5.

At the JV/F Level, the Redhawks won 16 of 18 matches contested.
