5/1/2021

  • NCHS 54 – Schaumburg 10
  • NCHS 65 – Batavia 12
  • NCHS 33 – Jacobs 30

Naperville Central improved to 4-2 after taking all three duals competing at Batavia High School.  The final contest was decided in the final two matches as the Redhawks were able to come from behind to beat Jacobs.

Sophomore Patrick Geiger lost 4-7 in the opening match at 126 pounds.  Geiger had won in the previous dual by technical fall against Batavia.  Freshman standout Mitchell Kaszuba lost by fall.  Kaszuba earned his first varsity win in his match against Schaumburg.  Captain Alex Knusel was nipped in his match, losing by a score of 0-1.  Knusel finished the day 2-1, earning a couple of pins.  Knusel is now 4-2 on the young season.  Chris Ramirez fell by decision 3-7.  Like his teammate, Ramirez had a couple of pins under his belt on the day.  Jacobs took an early 15-0 team score lead.

The comeback against Jacobs started with veteran starter Ayden Lutes.  Lutes won by technical fall 17-2.  It was a good day for Lutes, finishing 3-0 which included an excellent 4-3 decision against Riley Woods of Batavia.  Lutes now has a record of 5-1 and leads the team with 17 takedowns.  Senior Anthony Pendolino finished the day undefeated.  His fall against Jacobs pulled the Redhawks within 4 team points: 11-15.

Jacobs answered with a major decision win against Haaris Khan to make the team score 11-19.  Then Jacobs forfeited to senior 182 pounder Shane Roth and 195 pounder David Pirozhnik.  Both Roth and Pirozhnik remain undefeated on the season with records of 6-0.  Earlier, Roth added a pin and a 7-3 decision earlier on the day and leads the team in falls with three.  Pirozhnik scored a fall as well.  He leads the Redhawks in the team score category with 34 out of a possible 36 point.  The two freebees from Jacobs made the team score 23-19 in favor of the Hawks.  Austin Longmire was defeated by major decision and Jacobs knotted the team score 23-23 with four matches left.  Longmire was a 6-3 winner earlier in a hard fought battle against Schaumburg at heavyweight.

Wrestling at heavyweight against Jacobs, Nick Antonietti battled to a major decision 8-0.  The win put the Hawks ahead again 23-27 with three matches left.  Antonietti earned a fall against Batavia to improve to 5-1 on the year.  Freshman Ty Martin lost a hard fought match at 106 pounds by a major decision 0-12.  The dual would come down to the final two matches as scoreboard show 27 points for each team.  Wrestling at 113, Ethan Sentman got on the top position, cradled his opponent to his back and secured the pin with just one second left in the second period.  The fall put the Redhawks ahead 33-27 ensuring a dual victory.  Ethan Olson was defeated in the final match of the day 0-5, but the win was not enough for Jacobs.  Olson had won both of his earlier matches against Schaumburg and Batavia.

Meanwhile, wrestling at home, Naperville Central won 17 of 19 matches contested against Batavia.
