Naperville Central Blanks Waubonsie Valley

NCHS (3-1, DVC: 1-0) 76 – Waubonsie Valley 0

Naperville Central defeated DVC foe Waubonsie Valley at home by a score of 76 – 0.  The Warriors forfeited five of the fourteen matches and Central won all nine contested matches.  Of those nine, NCHS won by fall in six of them.

The contest started at 220 pounds where undefeated Redhawk Niko Besteiro pinned Walker with a great throw in 41 seconds.  Freshman standout Jacob Cochran (106 lbs) battled to the second period before winning by fall.  Not to be outdone, Mitchell Kaszuba (132) matched Besteiro with a throw of his own scoring a fall in 48 seconds.  Central’s Larry Stubitsch (138) scored six takedown in route to a 16-9 decision over Geataz.

In perhaps the most exciting match of the night, junior Redhawk Hagan Taylor outscored Wojtowich by a score of 15-13.  Taylor (145) scored a key takedown off a missed throw midway through the third period and then held on for the victory as the clock ran out.  Chris Bern (152) followed with a 13-5 major decision of Garcia, scoring six takedowns in his match, four of which came in the third period.

Naperville Central completed the contest with three falls.  John Carens (160) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period of his match before earning a pin in the second period.  Will Erbeck (170) was able to put his opponent’s shoulders to the mat in the second period.  Jacob Smetters completed the dual with a fall early in the second period of his match.

Central defeated Waubonsie Valley at the JV1 level by a score of 63-6, at the JV2 level 69-6, and at the freshman level 60-21.  Naperville Central girls competed as well.  Annika Hull scored a fall while newcomer Ella Sabugal was defeated in her effort.
