Naperville Central Defeats Waubonsie Valley

NCHS 69 – Waubonsie Valley 12

Naperville Central improved to 3-1 on the young season posting a DVC contest win at Waubonsie Valley by a score of 69-12.  The Redhawks won five of seven contested matches and picked up seven forfeits from the Warriors.  Central won the first five matches and Waubonsie won the final two.  Four of the Redhawks five wins came by way of fall.  Central outscored WV 27-4 in takedowns.

In all, Naperville Central won 54 total matches against 11 loses verses Waubonsie Valley.

Chris Bern (157) was on his way to a technical fall when he pinned his opponent in the third period.  He scored seven takedowns in his match.  Next up, Henry Rydwelski (175) racked up six takedowns of his own before winning by fall in the second period.  Niko Besteiro (215) looked impressive posting four takedowns before earning a fall.

Perhaps one of the more exciting matches of the night came from heavyweight Will Erbeck.  He was able to execute takedowns in each of his three periods, four total, in route to a 8-2 decision.  Varsity returner  Jacob Cochran (113) added the fourth fall for the Hawks in the third period after scoring six takedowns of his own.

Meanwhile the Naperville Central Girls won three of five matches against the Waubonsie Valley girls team.  Freshman standout Dezi Azar posted a first period fall at 125.  Junior Ellen Purl (125) added a victory to her record by scoring two takedowns followed by a second period fall.  Down 2-6, Bianca Arrendondo came from behind to score a win by fall in the second period of her match.  Definitely the most exciting match at all levels was the 120 pound match between Grace Mulech (120) and Ava Kus of Waubonsie Valley.  The match included three lead changes and 36 combined points scored.  Both wrestlers scored on multiple throws.  The second period proved thrilling with each wrestler scoring two takedowns and near-falls and 19 points scored in the two minutes.  Mulech succumbed by fall late in the third period.  Sophia Liu wrestled at 130 pounds.

The Redhawk Junior Varsity 1 and Junior Varsity teams both won by scores of 71-9 and 84-18 respectively.  The Hawk Freshman team also won 60-18.
