The Naperville Central Girls took to the mats for another tournament,
this time at Pontiac for the Munch.
Eight Redhawks competed and three came home with some hardware. Central won 17 matches and lost 14. Every Hawk wrestler won at least one match.
Sophomore Dezi Azar, 125, won three matches to improve to 14-2 on the season. She won by fall over Curcuic of Genesco to take third place. Azar leads the team in falls with 13 and takedowns with 15. Senior Bianca Arredondo, 130, lost to the number one seed early in the tournament, but rebounded to win five matches. Arredondo advanced to the 5th / 6th place match which she forfeited so that she wouldn’t exceed the daily six match maximum. Arredondo carries a record of 12-4 on the season and is tied with the takedown lead with 15.
Sophomore Arianna Rico, 9-5, won both of her first two
matches to advance to the semifinals at 145 pounds. Rico finished in fourth place after losing to
top-seeded Guthke of Batavia in her place match. Ellen Purl, 120, scored two falls at the
event including a come-from-behind pin against Malason of IVC. Purl is now 9-4 on the year. Newcomer Bella Lopez competed at 120 pounds
and scored a couple of pins herself.
Both Purl and Lopez finished the night at 2-2. Annika Hull (105), Alejandra Perez Delgado
(105) and Brenna Berkowitz (145) each won a match and all finished 1-2.
