Naperville Central won the 14 team Knight Invitational hosted by Chicago Sarah Goode STEM Academy. Central wrestlers won 39 matches against only 9 losses with 23 wins by fall and 9 wins by technical fall. The Hawks advanced ten of their 14 wrestlers to the finals and seven wrestlers came away champions. All fourteen wrestlers placed in the tournament.
Sophomore Justin Skryd broke out with three pins and a technical fall to bring home the gold at 157 pounds. Senior captain Will Erbeck scored three pins in a row to win the tournament at heavyweight. CJ Bierman got the blue ribbon, winning all three matches 150 pounds. Juniors Paul Peradotti (190) and Vince Bern (138) both got to stand on top of the podium. Senior captain Henry Rydwelski improved to 26-1 after winning all three matches at 175 pounds. Junior Jake Cochran needed only two wins to get the first place medal, both were by fall.
Three Redhawks made the championship match and took second place. Junior Dalton Meluch just missed earning gold, but still came away with a record of 2-1 wrestling at 106 pounds. Jake Moore looked tough at 120, scoring two wins for his second place finish. Sophomore Nick Olvera (165) earned a trip to the finals by winning three matches at the Knight Invite.
Jack
Schwartz (113), James Ball (126), and Stavros Gerousis (144) all made the podium
for a third place finish. All three
wrestlers finished with a 3-1 record Ball, a freshman, wrestled at 126 and is
now 8-5 on the year. Schwartz and
Gerousis both scored two falls apiece.
Jayden Davis, wrestling at 215 pounds, earned his first ever varsity win
at the event, and the repeated the effort with a second win. Davis finished 2-3 and a 6th place
finish.
