Cam Hayes 4th at Sectionals
February 12-13, 2016
Naperville Central has two qualifiers for the IHSA State
Wrestling Tournament. Both Jake Keating
and Cam Hayes placed in the top four at the Sectional tournament held at
Batavia High School. Christian Nussbaum
and Luc Jandt also competed in the tournament for the Redhawks.
Jake Keating qualified for the state tournament for the
second time after taking third place at sectionals. Keating won five out of six matches. In round one on Friday, Keating defeated Amato
of Montini by a score of 5-1. Later that

Brother Rice by a technical fall 17-2.
Keating then won by fall against Sanchez of Revis at the 2:50 mark. That win put Keating in the “blood round” (if
you win, you have qualified for state, if you lose you have been
eliminated). Keating faced off with Dado
of Marist. Keating jumped out to a big lead. Dado did not fade. He fought back to within two points. Keating was able to hold on for a 15-13
victory which punched his ticket to Champaign.
In the bronze medal match, Keating fought to a 9-1 major decision over
Garcia of Lyons. Jake Keating finished a
perfect 4-0 on Saturday.
Cam Hayes earned his name on the state qualifier board after
finishing in fourth place. On Friday,
Hayes won both matches to qualify for the semifinals. Hayes opened the tournament with a 8-2
victory against Leflone-Chapman of Downers Grove South. Hayes then pinned Capron Brother Rice. On Saturday, Hayes just missed defeating
Schneider of Sandburg, giving up a late takedown to fall 1-3. Cam Hayes bounced back with a big win in the
blood round, gaining a big lead before pinning Benson of Thornton Fractional-South. In the third place match, Cam was defeated by
Jimenez of Marmion by a score of 0-8.
Keating and Hayes will compete at the IHSA State Tournament
starting Thursday, February 18th.
Details will be available regarding their starting times later. Live video of their matches will be available
online.

five matches and just missed qualifying for state. Nussbaum defeated Brown of Sheppard 5-1 in
his first round match. Nussbsaum was
pinned by Walsh of Lyons in the second round.
On Saturday, Christian Nussbaum won two matches in a row to qualify for
the blood match. The 220 pounder pinned
Williams of Argo in just 51 seconds and then battled to a 6-2 win verses Daum
of Marist. In the blood round, Nussbaum
got a rematch of the regional final with Uzumecki of Batavia. The home school wrestler was able to pin
Nussbaum in the second period. Nussbaum
finishes his junior year with a final record of 39-9.

second place in the regionals. Jandt was
defeated by Fugiel of Glenbard East in the opening round 2-5 and was pinned in
the wrestle-backs by Price of Stagg.
Jandt ends his senior year with a record of 27-19.
