Naperville Central
improved to 6-1 on the young season after sweeping the Mega-Duals held at West
Aurora High School. In the first match,
the Redhawks defeated St. Charles East 35-25.
Starting at 145 pounds, NCHS won the first seven matches to go up 29-0
before SCE earned their first win. The
Hawks added to more victories to hold on for the win. In the second dual, the Redhawks again jumped
out to an early lead, earning a win by major decision and two pins to start up
16-0 against Hononegah. Rockton answered
with a major and two pins of their own in three of the next four matches to
pull within 6 points, 22-16. But NCHS
won five of the final seven matches for the dual win.
In the final match
of the day, the Redhawks defeated former DVC foe West Aurora by a score of 56-19. In that matchup, NCHS won 11 matches, six by
fall and one by forfeit.
The day was ruled by
sophomore Jackson Punzel who earned all three of his victories by fall. Christian Nussbaum was also undefeated and
had two pins and a major decision. Luke
Russell continued his fine work from the top position. We was 3-0 with two pins and a win by
forfeit. Kyle Guttosch, Jake Keating, and
Derek McDaniel were each 3-0 as well.
Kyle had one fall while Jake had two.
Every varsity wrestler came away with at least one win.
The Naperville
Central freshman wrestling team took 3rd place at the tough Lyons
Tournament. Tyler Driessens won the
championship at 99 pounds. The Redhawks
sent 6 individual to the finals in the tournament.
