Naperville Central Sweeps Four Duals at Oak Forest

Naperville Central improved to 12-1 on the season after sweeping all for duals competed at Oak Forest High School.  Hagan Taylor, Mitchell Kaszuba, Will Erbeck, and Jacob Cochran all finished with a record of 4-0.  Taylor led the way with three falls.  In all, Central won 42 individual matches against just 12 losses.

The Redhawks won six of seven matches contested against Bradley Bourbonnais.  Flynn Collins (120) scored a 11-6 decision and Vince Bern (138) earned a 7-0 win.  CJ Beirman (144), Hagan Taylor (150), and John Carens (165) then all posted falls.  Henry Rydwelski (175) lost a hard fought match by decision, but Jacob Smetters (190) picked him up with a fall in 37 seconds.

Central won five of eight matches against Mt Prospect in the second dual of the day.  Tyler Martin (126) opened the dual with a fall as the first period was about to expire.  Mitchell Kaszuba (132) followed with a fall of his own.  Vince Bern lost his match at 138 pounds.  CJ Bierman (144) continues to impress with a second period flat-backer.  Henry Rydwelski (175) scored a major decision 13-5 and standout Niko Besteiro (215) was a winner by pin.

The Hawks won seven of ten matches verses host Oak Forest.  Sophomore Jacob Cochran (113) scored a technical fall prior to the third period.  Vince Bern is showing improvement at 138 pounds adding a fall to his win total.  Oak Forest won three of the next four matches however senior leader Hagan Taylor (15) locked his opponent’s shoulder to the mat.  Naperville Central won all four of the last matches starting with a 13-5 major decision win by Henry Rydwelski (175).  Next a second period fall by Jacob Smetters (190).  Niko Besteiro and Will Erbeck both scored first period falls at 215 and 285 respectively. 

In the final matchup, NCHS won seven of twelve from Rochelle.  Mitchell Kaszuba (132) finished off a 4-0 day winning by fall in the first period to improve to 13-5 on the season.  Vince Bern (138) added a late pin with just three seconds remaining his him match.  Hagan Taylor (150) needed only 31 second to dispatch his opponent.  He leads the team in falls with 12 and improve his overall record to 14-2 on the season.  Chris Bern (157) added another pin.  Bern is tied with Rydwelski in the team takedown category with 44.  Bern has a record of 14-5.  Speaking of Henry Rydwelski (175), he locked down a 5-1 decision to cap of a three-win day and improve to 13-5.  Jacob Smetters eked out a 6-5 decision for his third win as well.  The senior has a matching record of 13-5.  Red hot Jacob Cochran (113) finished of a four win day with a second period fall.  Cochran improves to 14-4.  Sophomore Jake Moore won two matches at the event.

The NCHS JV 1 team wrestled in a quadrangular and won all three dual impressively defeating Oak Forest 58-18, Joliet Central 78-5 and Bolingbrook 68-12.  Wining all three matches was Luciano Antonietti, Gavin McDonald, Jack Schwartz, Bradley Anderson, Zaide Azar, Christian Kuta, Paul Peradotti, and Javier Sevilla.  Antonietti, McDonald, Schwartz, Anderson and O’Donnell won all their matches by fall.  Aaron Nussbaum finished 2-0 and Sean Fitzgerald finished 1-0.  Central won 40 of the 47 matches competed, 30 by fall.

Naperville Central put together a freshman-sophomore team that traveled to the very competitive Maine-South Freshman-Sophomore Tournament and finished in second place out of nine teams.  Hersey High School won the tournament with 212 points, Central finished with 179 and taking third was Libertyville with 119.  Bringing home gold for the Redhawks was Igor De Castro (113), Stavros Gerousis (138), Justin Skryd (150), Nick Olvera (165), and Chase Castro (175).  Making the finals and taking second place was Dalton Meluch (106).  Third place finishers were Sean Serbinski (101), Cayden Castro (126), and Caelon Young (157).
