Central Girls Finish in 5th Place at 37-Team Ottawa Girls Holiday Hootenanny Tournament

The Lady Redhawk wrestling team battled valiantly, placing four of seven entrants at the Ottawa Girls Wrestling Tournament.  Naperville Central won 19 matches against just 10 losses at the tournament.  Minooka fielded a full team and won the event.

Freshman standout Dezi Azar walked away as tournament champion at 125 pounds winning all four matches including a dramatic fall in the finals against top-seeded Charelouis of Minooka.  Azar improved to 17-2 on the season and also leds the team in takedowns with 27.  Junior Ellen Purl (120) earned two pins, the second in the quarterfinals and finished in fourth place.  Purl is now 14-7 with all fourteen wins coming by fall.  Junior veteran Annika Hull (100) proved she is a force.  Hull finished 4-1 earning four wins by fall including her place match against Almazan of Shepard.  Young Gracie Meluch (110) wrestled out of a pigtail match all the way to fifth place, posting another five falls to her growing resume.  Her place match was a pin against Henson of Streator.  Meluch is tied with Azar for most wins on the season with a 17-6 record.  All of her 17 wins are by fall as well.  Bianca Arrendondo (130) and Arianna Rico (145) both finished in the top eight by finishing with identical 2-2 records.  Sophia Liu wrestled at 130 pounds.
