NCHS defeat Wheaton Warrenville South

Redhawks win 34-24

On Friday, December 10 Naperville Central defeated Wheaton Warrenville South in DVC action at home by a score of 34-24.  The Redhawks (5-4, 1-2 DVC) won 7 matches and picked up another by forfeit in the contest and outscored the Tigers 21-14 in takedowns

Starting at 215 pounds, Will Damron was pinned but James Mitchell picked him up with a tough 4-3 win at heavyweight.  James used a single leg takedown that brought the crowd to their feet in the second period and battled to his decision.  James was named the I'm Somebody Award Winner for his effort.

Ryan Porter was defeated 2-15 at 103 pounds.  Then Cenral rattled off five wins in a row starting with Mitch Lee picking up a forfeit at 112 pounds.  Steven Splan earned a pin at 119 pounds.  Jon Williamson fought to a 10-1 major decision at 125 pounds.  Kirk Cherep dominated his match, winning 16-1 by technical fall.  Andrew Meder earned another varsity win with a 11-4 decision at 135 pounds.

In the match of the night, Josh Tardy and Savenok, two top ranked wrestlers, butted heads with Savenok getting the upper hand 5-2.  Kyle Miller used five takedowns to win 11-3 at 145 pounds.  The Tigers won the last three matches.  John Mixen lost to top-ranked Chino 1-17, Colin Guttosch lost 0-4, and Luck Roth lost at 189 pounds by a score of 7-13.

Next up the Redhawks wrestle in their first tournament of the year at Hoffman Estates.
