Redhawks at Hinsdale Central Tournament

Naperville Central placed 23rd out of 26 teams at the Hinsdale Central Whitlatch Invitational wrestled Friday and Saturday, December 17 and 18. The Redhawks were without three varsity wrestlers who were out with the flu.  Top finisher for the Redhawks was senior Josh Tardy who ended up 6th after injury defaulting his final match. Josh opened the tournament with a 15-1 win against Hill of DGS and then made the semis by defeating Dahl of Bradley - Bourbouos. Josh lost a tight match to Holler of Sandburg 2-3 and was injured and pinned by Pealstrom of West Aurora in the consolation semifinals.

Senior Jon Williamson also placed in the event, taking 7th and finishing with four wins. Jon scored on a last second takedown to win 9-8 in his final match against Bromberek of Lemont avenging his first round loss to the same opponent. Jon pinned Shaw (HF) and Svestka (WC) and defeated O'Brien (SCN) 5-2 in the tournament. Jon was the team's I'm Somebody for his work.

Kirk Cherep fought to a 3-2 record over the weekend. Kirk posted wins of 5-4 against Shephard (CS), 17-2 against Audus (MOL), and 6-0 against Coules (DGS) and just missed placing.

James Mitchell also just placing. He qualified for the quarterfinals by pinning Kerstein of Hinsdale South but just missed the semis losing 2-3 in double overtime to DeLeon of Fenwick.

Steven Splan scored two wins in the tournament, a 4-1 decision in the first round to DiCtristofano of DGS and a pin against Lancaster of Joliet Catholic.

Kyle Miller one a match and lost two heartbreakers in the event. Miller majored Terronez of Moline. Will Damron also got a win against Tomala of Lemont. Trace Murray, John Mixen, Alex Sokolowski and Colin Guttosch also wrestled for the Redhawks in the event.

On Friday the Redhawk JV team defeated Glenbard West while the freshman lost.  On Saturday NCHS JV team travelled to Bolingbroom and finished 2-1 in duals defeating Joliet Central and Oak Forest while losing to Bolingbrook.  The Sophomores travelled to the Maine South Sophomore Tournament and placed 7th out of 9 teams.  John Needham took 2nd.  The freshman travelled to Hinsdale South and lost three duals to Wheaton North, Hinsdale Central and Downers Grove North.

Next up for the Redhawk Varsity team is the Sandburg Quad on Wednesday, January 29th where they will take on Sandburg, Bloom, and Stevenson.  GO REDHAWKS!
