Naperville Central falls to Glenbard North

Central wins 5 matches in DVC dual

Naperville Central fell to Glenbard North in the final DVC dual of the year by a score of 16-48. The Redhawks won five of the 14 weigh classes contested. The Hawks are now 12-8 on the year and finish 3-4 in the DVC conference. The Hawks will finish their dual meet season at Thornton Fractional South on Saturday, January 22. Action starts at 9:00.

With the 160 weight class drawn, Tom Mitrenga started off his match with a bang scoring a takedown and nearfall in the first period and added another nearfall in the second period, but junior couldn’t hold on and lost 9-11. Colin Guttosch continued to stay hot with an exciting 18-10 major decision at 171 pounds. Colin scored three takedowns including a throw in the final period to ice his victory. Luke Roth kept the momentum going for the Redhawks with a solid 5-3 decision at 189 pounds. Luke’s two takedowns in the first period were enough to decided the match.

Glenbard North countered with five pins in a row. Will Damron fell in the second period at 215 pounds. James Mitchell battled to a scoreless first period but was pinned when he was unable to escape from the bottom in the second period. At 103 pounds, Ryan Porter was pinned in the second period as was Mitch Lee at 112 pounds. Steven Splan lost by fall at 119.

Jon Williamson came from behind to score a win at 125 pounds. With the score tied at 2-2 going into the third period, Jon let his opponent up twice and scored two big takedowns in the third period to win 6-4. Kirk Cherep lost to the defending state champ by fall in the second period. At 135 pounds, Josh Tardy scored the first takedown and then cruised to a solid 8-1 decision. Kyle Miller lost by fall at 140 pounds to the states second ranked wrestler. John Graeber clashed at 145 pounds but fell short of a win by a 5-11 decision.

John Mixen scored two takedowns in the second period and added another in overtime to send the Redhawks home with a victory at 152 pounds. John’s come from behind win earned him the team’s “I’m Somebody” Award.
