Glenbard North upends Naperville Central

Naperville Central 5-9, (1-4 in DVC), lost to highly ranked Glenbard North at home by a score of 64-7.  The dual started right with the Redhawks as senior Tom Mitrenga posted a solid 15-4 major decision at 160 pounds.  Mitrenga scored a takedown with backpoints to begin the match and added another set of five in the second period.  Kyle Klass followed with an outstanding performance at 170 pounds.  Kyle scored two takedowns in the first period to take a 4-1 lead, then added takedowns in the second and third period to hold on to the victory.  Kyle won the team's "I'm Somebody" for his performance.
 
After those matches, it was all Glenbard North the rest of the way.  Luke Roth dropped a 4-12 decision to Fierro at 182 pounds and Ryan Berg lost to Elderage by a score of 3-7.  Vince Piazza and Derek Wilke were pinned in the first period.  Mitch Lee ran up a 7-1 lead in the first period against Gonzalez of his match at 113 pounds and added a big takedown in the third period to extend his lead to 9-3, but he was reversed and pinned late in the match.  Stephen Splan was defeated 5-22 by Cortez.  Ben Williamson was pinned in the first period by Marmolejo at 126.  Kirk Cherep lost 1-11 at 132 pounds.
 
Glenbard then rattled off three pins in a row to end the dual.  Andrew Meder was pinned by Brandle, Hunter Stephens lost by fall to Johnson, and Trace Murray fell to Murphy.
 
The NCHS JV1 team won 6 of 13 contested matches against Glenbard North but lost 31-45 in their dual.  At JV2, NCHS lost 12-66.  The Redhawk freshman team won 7 of 13 contested matches, five of which came by fall.  Glenbard North won the dual 39-45.
 
Next up the Redhawk varsity team will travel to Downers Grove North for a quad against DGN, Bartlett, and Champaign Central.  JV1, JV2, and freshman teams will all be competing in tournaments.
