NCHS 42 – NV 24

The Redhawks (5-3, 1-1 in DVC) traveled to Neuqua Valley and
defeated the Wildcats by a score of 42-24 for their first conference win in the
2015-16 season.
After Alex Hunter received a forfeit at 220 pounds,
Christian Nussbaum scored a technical fall at heavyweight, winning by a score
of 22-5. Nuss scored six takedowns and
locked down three sets of nearfall in his match. Swinging up to the lightweights, Kyle Guttosch
dropped a 1-6 decision at 106 pounds, but then the Redhawks won the next four
matches. Senior Shuji Mizoguchi compiled
three takedowns in route to a 9-3 decision at 113, then Nick Keating fired away
at 120 pounds winning a 17-5 major victory.
Jake Keating muscled his way to a 18-3 technical fall at 126 and senior
Luc Jandt picked up a forfeit at 132 pounds.
The Hawks sent out their up-and-comers in three of the next
four weight classes. Freshman Luke
Russell rode his opponent out in the third period, but lost 1-7 at 138
pounds. Sophomore Derek McDaniel and
freshman Jackson Punzel were pinned at 152 and 160 pounds respectively. It was Jackson’s first attempt at
varsity. Senior Steven Bumpus was able
to score a late takedown to win in overtime at 145 pounds by a score of 6-4.
Cam Hayes coasted his way to a 10-1 win at 170 pounds. Brad Klass was pinned at 182 in his first
challenge at varsity. Alex Raulicks
finished the dual in style with a first period fall.
The JV 1 team and JV2 teams both won their duals against Neuqua
Valley while the freshman lost in their efforts.
