Central defeats Metea Valley

NCHS 39 – MVHS 28

In a battle of DVC schools, Naperville Central (6-3, 2-1 in DVC) came out on top against Metea Valley at MVHS by a score of 39 to 28.

Christian Nussbaum continued his success by scoring an escape and penalty point in the second period of overtime in his match.  He added a takedown in period three of overtime to win 5-3.  Kyle Guttosch scored a takedown and three back-points with a standing cradle to open his match at 106 pounds and held on to win by decision 8-2.  Shuji Mizoguchi added a pin in his match at 113 pounds.  His pin came in the second period.  NCHS held a 12-0 lead in the team score.  Metea earned their first win against Nick Keating at 120 pounds.

Jake Keating earned a quick pin at 126 pounds and Luc Jandt held on to win him match by decision 7-4.  With the team score at 21-6, Metea won two matches in a row.  The first came against Luke Russell and the second against Steven Bumpus.  Derek McDaniel, wrestling at 152 pounds, was down 3-5 going into the third period – scored an escape and two takedowns to win.  The last TD came with just 10 seconds left in the match.  The excitement continued when freshman Jackson Punzel earned his first varsity win at 160 pounds.  Jackson tallied four takedowns in his effort and put his team up 27-16.

Cam Hayes scored a fall just 22 seconds into his match and then Ben Cianchetti matched his teammate with a pin of his own in just 22 seconds.  That fall was enough to insure the victory for the Redhawks.  Metea Valley won the last two matches by fall against Alex Raulickis and Alex Hunter at 195 and 220 pounds.

The Junior Varsity team won their contest against 38-19 and the freshman won by a score of 42-36.  Metea did not field a JV2 team, but the Redhawks won four of six exhibition matches contested.
