Naperville Central took 2nd
place at the 14 team Hoffman Estates Tournament on Saturday. NCHS was winning the tournament after round 1 and was in
first place after three weight classes in the final round, but Niles Notre Dame
pulled away after that when they had four champions. They won the event by 14
team points. The third place team, Bolingbrook
finished 48 points behind Central.
The Redhawks had four finalists in the tournament and 11 of
the 13 participants placed in the top six.
Senior Cam Hayes won the event in style by scoring a 15-0 technical fall
in the championship match. Cam dominated
his opponents at 160, scoring a pin and three technical falls on the day. Senior Alex Hunter also won the event at 220
pounds. This is Alex’s first time
winning a varsity tournament. Seeded
third, Alex locked down a pin in the quarterfinals and won 4-2 in the semifinals. In the championship match, he was able to
ride his opponent out to win again by a 4-2 score.
Jake Keating and Luke Russell both made the finals and took
2nd. Jake scored two falls
before losing in the finals by a 2-8 score.
Freshman Luke Russell put together a very exciting tournament, winning
in come-from-behind fashion several times and scoring pins in three matches to
make the finals. Unseeded, he took 2nd,
losing by a score of 0-7 in his last match.
Three NCHS wrestlers took 3rd at the tournament. Freshman Kyle Guttosch scored a fall in his
place match. Kyle had a very good day,
winning two matches at 106 pounds. Shuji
Mizoguchi lost in the semifinals but earned a fall in his bronze medal match at
113. Steven Bumpus, unseeded, got to
pins to make the semifinals and then won 3-2 in his third place match.
Luc Jandt took 4th place at 132 pounds. Nick Keating took 5th and Derek
McDaniel and Christian Nussbaum both took 6th place.
The NCHS JV team won the Streamwood Dual Tournament on
Saturday. They beat Highland Park 63-0
and then South Elgin 35-18. In the
finals, the Redhawks defeated DeKalb 48-27 to bring home the trophy. The freshman traveled to Lyons Township
again, this time in a dual effort. They
won 26 of 33 total matches on the day.
Next up Naperville Central will host Wabaunsee Valley on
Friday, December 18. Hope to see you
there to cheer on the Redhawks. On
Saturday the JV will host a quad with Bolingbrook, Oak Lawn and Joliet, the
Sophomores will wrestle at the Maine South Tournament and the freshman will go
to Hinsdale South.
GO REDHAWKS!
