Naperville Central improves to 3-1 in the DVC (7-4 overall)
after defeating Waubonsie Valley at home.
Central sweeps the D204 schools in duals. Christian Nussbaum was awarded a forfeit at
220. Alex Hunter started the dual at
heavyweight and battled to a 1-7 loss.
Kyle Guttosch scored a first period pin at 106. The freshman used a 2-on-1 to gain advantage
on with a takedown and went right to work on top for the fall. Shuji Mizoguchi also scored a pin at 113
pounds. Sophomore Nick Keating came out
firing and locked down a cradle for a pin at 120. His brother racked up 16 first period points
and scored a pin at the end of the period.
Luc Jandt got the fifth pin in a row this night. That made the team score 36-3. Luke Russell fought to the third period but
lost by fall.
Steven Bumpus had a good night. He won by technical fall at 145 after accumulating 21 points mostly by fireman’s carry.
Derek McDaniel was defeated at 152 pounds but he battled hard. Jackson Punzel had a very good night scoring
multiple times on his feet before securing a stick. Senior Cam Hayes wrested at 170 pounds and
found himself in a very tight match.
Both wrestlers traded two takedowns before Cam scored on a beautiful
cross knee pick and locked down a pin. Ben Cianchetti won by forfeit. Alex Raulickis was up 3-0 but was cradled and pinned in the second
period.
The JV1, JV2 teams both won while the freshman team was
defeated by WV.
On Saturday the JV1 team sweep their duals at home against Bolingbrook, Joliet Central and Oak Forrest. The JV2 (sophomore) team wrestled at the Maine South Tournament and the freshman won two of three duals at Hinsdale South.
NCHS varsity wrestling of off for the week and will restart
their season at the Bradley B Dual Tournament on Tuesday, December 29. They then have quads at home on December 31
and January 2.
