Naperville Central Battles Naperville North on the Turf

The annual crosstown classic wrestling dual pitting the Redhawks against the Huskies took place on the turf in Memorial Stadium at Naperville Central High School on a Friday night.  The weather was perfect as the contest started in the daylight and concluded under the lights on the football field.  The Redhawks won the dual 42-24 taking eight of the thirteen contested matches.

The event started at the 152 pound weight class were senior Ayden Lutes overcame an early deficit to win by major decision over Garrett Dahn.  The Huskies answered as they came back to win five of the next six matches.  Nico Takano (NN, 160) used a foot sweep and later pinned Anthony Pendolino.  Ericas Bartkevicius (NN, 170) battled to a late third period fall against Haaris Khan.  Senior Shane Roth was able to temporarily stop the bleeding for the Hawks with a 7-2 decision at 182 pounds.  Gavin McCormick (NN, 195) caught Ethan Pytlak on his back for a first period pin.  Dane Tsao (NN, 220) squared off against Austin Longmire and came away with a decision 3-7.  At this point, the main scoreboard showed the Huskies ahead 21-7 in the team score.

The Redhawks were able to win seven of the final eight matches.  Nick Antoniettti (NC, 285) on top and maintained good position throughout, winning by major decision 9-0 verses Abdul Ibragimov.  Freshman upstart Ty Martin (NC 106) was able to secure a fall over Alex Paunkov.  After Ethan Sentman (NC, 113) received a forfeit, Ethan Olson (NC, 120) scored a pin-fall over Aidan Hinkle in the second period.  The Huskies answered with a decision at 126 pounds with Alex Spitzner defeating August Kukis 8-4.

Alex Knusel (NC, 132) won a solid major decision over Cam Clark 9-0.  Ethan Jones (NC, 138) scored a second period fall over Andres Lau.  The pin was enough to mathematically secure the victory for the Redhawks.  In the final match of the night, Junior Tommy Porter (NC, 145) returned to the varsity line-up to defeat Jake Newton by a score of 8-2.

The Redhawk Junior Varsity and freshman wrestlers won 21 of 23 matches prior to the varsity dual.
