The IHSA season concluded on June 12, but wrestling didn’t
end for the Redhawks. The team travelled
to host Naperville North High School to compete in the High School Regionals governed
by the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association. Twelve schools entered at least one
participant. Wrestlers that place in the
top six advance to the IWCOA Sectional Tournament held next week at Elmhurst
College on Saturday, June 19 with a chance to wrestle at State. The top four from sectionals will wrestle at
the Bank of Springfield Center Saturday, Saturday June 26.
The Redhawks were able to win eight of the ten matches in the place round to secure the team championship. Bringing home gold for the Hawks were Ayden Lutes (152), David Pirozhnik (195) and Antonio Torres (170).
Bronze winners were Tyler Martin (106), Ethan Olson (120),
Tommy Porter (132), and Nick Antonietti (285).
Ethan Sentman (113) battled to a fourth place finish. Sophomore Patrick Geiger (126) took fifth and
Haaris Khan (182) took sixth. Both
Geiger and Khan are sectional qualifiers.
Also taking the mat for the Redhawks were Anthony Pendolino,
Chris Ramirez, Charlie Morgan and Austin Longmire.
