Naperville Central Blanks Neuqua Valley

Naperville Central improved to 2-0 on the DuPage Valley Conference and 7-1 on the season.  The Redhawks won all eleven matches contested and picked up three additional wins by forfeit.  Five matches were won by fall and the Hawks outscored the Wildcats 29 to 6 in takedowns.

After Central’s Dalton Meluch picked up a forfeit at 106 pounds, Jacob Cochran (113) scored takedowns in both the first and second period before pinning his opponent.  Flynn Collins (120) recorded his first ever varsity win for the Redhawks in impressive fashion.  He also scored takedowns in all three periods to major Brady Podracky 16-6.  Tyler Martin (126) added three more takedowns for the Redhawks before winning by fall in the first period.  Mitchell Kaszuba (132) picked up a forfeit.

In one of the more exciting matches of the day, Vince Bern (138) came from behind to defeat Jay Chidley 8-5.  Bern scored a reversal and back points on a roll in the second period and added another set of takedown-back points in the third to secure the tightly contest.  CJ Bierman (144) earned a takedown in each period of his match against Nicholas Page to secure a decision 8-2.  Hagen Taylor (150) improve his record to 5-1 on the season with a win by fall over Curtis Burke in the second period.  Taylor racked up twelve match points prior to his pin including four takedowns.

Senior Christopher Bern (157) overcame a takedown by Dzhamaludin Nurudinov.  Bern was able to escape and scored a takedown directly to a pin with only a half-second left in the first period.  John Carens (165) is now 7-1 on the season after earning a 12-2 major decision against Maddox Menendez.  Carens scored three takedowns, two in the first period and one more in the second to coast to his win.

Henry Rydwelski (175) looked impressive with a solid 13-4 major decision against Delvidas Lewiton.  Rydwelski led the team with six takedowns in his match.  Jacob Smetters (190) fell behind 2-3 after the first period, but overcame the deficit with and escape and takedown in the second period and a late nearfall in the third period to win 8-3.  After a surprise switch by Neuqua Valley, Nicolas Besteiro (215) won expectantly by forfeit.  The Wildcats bumped up Ethan Schoeck to heavyweight.  William Erbeck scored fall in 59 seconds to secure the shout out.  Erbeck is has improved to 7-1 on the season.

The Naperville JV1 team also won with a shut out 76-0.  The Hawks Freshman team won 63-18.
