The NCHS girls traveled to Pontiac High School for the
annual Munch Girls Wrestling Tournament, placing 13th of 32
teams. Central won 14 of 27 matches and
had three girls place in the event.
Leading the way for Lady Redhawks was upstart freshman Dezi
Azar (125). Azar, now 9-2 on the season,
advanced to the quarterfinals and won all of her matches in the wrestle-backs
to finish in third place. Azar won four
matches and lead the team with a combined eight takedowns. Bianca Arrendondo (130) lost in her opening
match but returned with four consecutive wins two by fall. Arrendondo advanced to her place match with a
headlock and pin, finishing in 6th place.
Newcomer Gracie Meluch (115) finished 3-2 on the day with all three wins by fall. Meluch qualified for the seventh place match. Junior Ellen Purl (120) ended the day at 2-2 with two takedowns and two falls. Annika Hull (100) won a match. Sophia Liu and Arianna Rico also completed.
