Naperville Central won its second dual in as many nights,
this time over DVC foe Wheaton Warrenville South by a score of 40-24. The Redhawks are now 20-3 on the year and 5-1
in the DVC. Central has won 17 duals in
a row. It was senior night at WWS
Joe Lopez picked up a forfeit at 126 at the start of the
dual, then Jake Keating won by technical fall at 132 pounds against Kerth by a
score of 61-1. Senior Luc Jandt battled
but lost wrestling at 138 pounds by a score of 2-7 to Howland. Fellow senior Steven Bumpus fell behind by
three early in his match to Berry but fought back to win 8-5. The Tigers came back when Macellaio pinned
Derek McDaniel in the 145 pound weight class.
Cam Hayes wrestled for another technical fall at 160 pounds against
McClearn. He scored a reversal and
nearfall in the final period to secure his win by a score of 21-5. With the team score at 19-9, WWS won at 170, 182
and 195 pounds to take the lead 19-24. John
Szczap was pinned by Niyigena. Ben
Cianchetti was defeated 3-9 verses Hopkins and Alex Raulicks lost by fall
Leonard.
The Redhawks then won the last five matches. Christian Nussbaum started the winning streak
fighting for a 3-1 win with a late third period takedown against Ferrek. Alex Hunter took advantage of being in the
top position scoring a much needed fall at heavyweight verses Wilson. At 106 pounds, Kyle Guttosch used a 2-on-1
tie for a takedown and that was enough points for his win against Burgess by a
score of 2-0. Shuji Mizoguchi improved
to 24-1 on the year with a fall at 113 pounds.
He pinned Edwards. Nick Keating
put the icing on the dual with a late reversal to win 6-4 against Tesfay.
The JV1, JV2 and freshman teams all won against Wheaton
South.
Next up Naperville Central will compete in their final quad
of the year at Downers Grove North High School.
