NCHS 40 – WWS 24

December 8, 2016

Naperville Central won its second dual in as many nights, this time over DVC foe Wheaton Warrenville South by a score of 40-24.  The Redhawks are now 20-3 on the year and 5-1 in the DVC.  Central has won 17 duals in a row.  It was senior night at WWS

Joe Lopez picked up a forfeit at 126 at the start of the dual, then Jake Keating won by technical fall at 132 pounds against Kerth by a score of 61-1.  Senior Luc Jandt battled but lost wrestling at 138 pounds by a score of 2-7 to Howland.  Fellow senior Steven Bumpus fell behind by three early in his match to Berry but fought back to win 8-5.  The Tigers came back when Macellaio pinned Derek McDaniel in the 145 pound weight class.

Cam Hayes wrestled for another technical fall at 160 pounds against McClearn.  He scored a reversal and nearfall in the final period to secure his win by a score of 21-5.  With the team score at 19-9, WWS won at 170, 182 and 195 pounds to take the lead 19-24.  John Szczap was pinned by Niyigena.  Ben Cianchetti was defeated 3-9 verses Hopkins and Alex Raulicks lost by fall Leonard.

The Redhawks then won the last five matches.  Christian Nussbaum started the winning streak fighting for a 3-1 win with a late third period takedown against Ferrek.  Alex Hunter took advantage of being in the top position scoring a much needed fall at heavyweight verses Wilson.  At 106 pounds, Kyle Guttosch used a 2-on-1 tie for a takedown and that was enough points for his win against Burgess by a score of 2-0.  Shuji Mizoguchi improved to 24-1 on the year with a fall at 113 pounds.  He pinned Edwards.  Nick Keating put the icing on the dual with a late reversal to win 6-4 against Tesfay.

The JV1, JV2 and freshman teams all won against Wheaton South.

Next up Naperville Central will compete in their final quad of the year at Downers Grove North High School.
