The Naperville Central girls finished in
an impressive 7th place at Nile West Tournament with a 32 team field. Nine Central girls wrestled with only six scorers
due to some competing in the same weight class.
Five Redhawks placed. All nine
wrestlers came away with at least one win.
In all, Central won 25 matches against 15 losses.
Senior Ellen Purl picked up where she left off last year with a remarkable second place finish. Purl advance to the finals with a come-from-behind pin against Nevarez of Oswego East. Purl finished the day 3-1 with three falls wrestling at 125 pounds. Also wrestling at 125 pounds, sophomore Dezi Azar finished in third place. Azar picked up the most wins for the Hawks, ending with a 5-1 record – all wins by fall. Gracie Meluch, 120 added four pins to the team total and finished with a fourth-place medal. Senior mainstay Annika Hull earned three wins in route to a fourth-place finish at 105 pounds.
Sophomore Arianna Rico dropped her
first match of the day, but came all the way back to 7th place, earning
four points on her way to a 4-1 record at 155 pounds. Senior Bianca Arredondo just missed placing
but started her 24-25 campaign with a 3-1 record with all her wins by fall at
130 pounds. Sophia Liu scored a win against
Juarez of Wheeling by a score of 7-5.
Both Alejandra Perez Delgado and Brenna Berkowitz earned their first
career wins in the tournament. Perez
Delgado scored a 16-0 technical fall against Flores of Wheaton and Berkowitz won
by fall over Patitucci of Maine West.
